David Ross
Early
life in music David
grew up with music in his life with his dad playing piano accordion in his
own dance band Ross’ Dance Band. David studied piano under Ossie Massie,
also learning piano and button accordion. By age of 15 he was playing
drums and guitar in a local band that included Peter Salata
a well known country recording star and winner at Tamworth
Festival. David
eventually joined his father in Ross’ Dance Band playing drums and later
piano. Ross’ dance Band comprised Organ, Piano Accordion, Guitar,
Saxophone or Trumpet and Drums. The band played at local venues from
Stanthorpe out west to Texas and South to Tenterfield. Wherever there was
a suitable hall (even shearing sheds) and people wanting to dance, Ross’
Dance band would provide the music. One memorable night in Stanthorpe occurred
when Ross’s Dance band shared the stage with Australian Dance Band icon
Jack Papworth and his dance band. The Civic centre was filled with 1500
dancers and Ross’s Dance band was crowned the best dance band in South
East Queensland. In
time David found a love for other styles of music and was approached by
Golden Guitar winner Marie Kirwan to join her band playing keyboards. Music
as a career David
started his working life in machinery, eventually owning a mobile
workshop. He also taught music part time. However the opportunity to make
music his full time career came in 1989 when St Joseph’s school
approached him to become their instrumental music teacher. David’s
expertise was recognised by the education department and he introduced
many school students to the joy of learning an instrument and musical
appreciation. David has taught at several schools as a music specialist. Band
Achievements For eight years David was keyboard player with Midnight Reflection with Phil Testa. Now Phil and David are part of Triple Beat with Frank Maugeri (ex Ronnie and the Ramblers). The band regularly plays local and country venues offering different styles of dance music such as Rock and Roll, New Vogue and Ballroom. They are very proud of their first cd and eagerly looking forward to producing a second CD of dance tunes.
